Meet our Residents & Program Horses

These are some of our success stories. These horses have been saved by generous donors and volunteers - and of course the families who open their hearts and pastures. Check out their stories, some of these horses continue to live at the stable, participating in our many youth and adult programs.

Meet our Residents!

Visit our farm, meet these guys in person! Some of these horses have long-term "angels"! These kind folks have stepped forward to care for these forgotten horses, providing for their long term care or rescue so that they could know a better life! A few of these guys are used in our many youth programs...a few have even done commercials! Please read on....

Cooper...Thanks to Judy Flynn, our beloved equine dentist, Cooper has a home here at the SummerWinds Stables. Cooper came to us from the racetrack, and we retrained him to be a pleasure horse. Along came his new teenage best friend...and the two became inseperable. Since Cooper's new bff is getting good grades, and working hard to make sure Cooper gets all the love and attention he needs, Judy donated her sponsorship to Eric so that he could continue to work with Cooper. What a wonderful match!!! We are so thankful to both of them for their dedicaiton!

Rocky - Rocky is one of our leading therapeudic riding horses. He's a been there, done that QH type who may pretend he doesnt like the attention, but, secretly, he cannot wait to go for a trail ride, to a clinic, a show or even just a jaunt around the farm. A huge thanks to the Black family for his long-term sponsorship so that Rocky can continue to lead and teach.

Vinnie Bag 'O Donuts - Our new Mascot thanks to Debi and Kurt Bartell who helped bring him to the SWS. We are so excited as Vinnie meets his first children's group! 50 First Graders from a local school are raising money for the rescue in Vinnie's name. What could be cooler? Oh..besides a cape for our new mascot!!!

Louie - This cool cat is a farm favorite and we have to keep a separate mailbox for his fanmail! This super guy is just too cool for words. He participates in our many programs, and will get almost obnoxious if someone doesnt bring him out, give him treats or talk to him at least once a day. This is not hard to do - everyone loves Lou! He has melted many hearts, and continues to be a teacher, friend and confidant at the SWS! Sponsored by the Stearrett Family!

Lord Don is just that - Lordly! He thinks he owns this farm and no one has told him differently!! Don came with the first brick, he is a gentleman and a very kind horse. Small children love him, women adore him. He participates in our programs, but generally keeps the farm in line. If something happens, you can bet Lord Don is the FIRST to let us know by a loud Whinny or nudge!! This guys owners still visit him, and will talk about the races he won. Most recently, he is sponsored by Victoria...all she has to do is call his name and he comes runnin'!

We couldn't possibly forget Roxie, our beloved Argentine Thoroughbred. She is an older gal, with plenty of love left to give. She is the mare who teaches our youngsters how to behave, and even took a baby mustang we had rescued under her wing. This special gal really needs a sponsor, someone who will love her for who she is. Sarah loved her all summer long, but has since gone alway to college. We think Roxie really misses her and needs a girl of her very own to love...

2008 was a great year for horse placements! So many of our guys found GREAT homes including:

"Big C" aka Clarence a big gelding found a home in Virginia. He has starred on "You Tube" and was featured on an interent website selling hats that movies stars have worn (Like Indiana Jones!) We are so thankful to the Big C's owners. They really went above and beyond to give him the most perfect home!

Grace, our little crazy arabian found a loving home on a waterfront farm at the Delaware Beaches. This little girl has a best friend, another mare, and she just loves all the attention her new owners spoils her with. She is living the good life as a beach bum!

Nemo, a little Halflinger with an "I love my Attitude" t-shirt, found a home as a driving horse in PA. The latest report? He is doing great in training as a driving horse. He found his niche with very savvy owners!!!

Zorro, a short zippy little QH is now in training as a Western Pleasure/Performance horse in upstate NY. Recent photos showed a very dressed to impress horse! His new owner said that he learns quickly and is the love of her life!!!! She even came back and adopted another QH from us...WOW!

These "Rescued" horses all got new careers and a second chance. Dont you want to take one home today????

Candy

Words cannot express how sad we are that Candy is gone, but we are thrilled that she is now being spoiled at a wonderful facility with a woman who loves only her and her three pasture buddies. She is a wonderful horse that will be missed, and one that has touched so many with her gentle heart.

Misty

Misty, our sweet and willing pony, found a home with an adorable little boy who saved his allowance for a whole year to adopt her. It was love at first sight and the two have trotted off into the sunset! We will miss you, Misty!

Sassy

Sassy, a QH/Percheron cross was adopted by a woman who hopes to trail ride into the sunset. A fantastic horsewoman, Sassy will want for nothing in her new home. We wish you both much happiness!

Julliet

Julliet, our resident Belgian, was adopted by Green Gate Farm in Princess Anne. Julliet shall be spoiled by the women who come for healing, therapy and love. Julliet hates to be ridden, but will stand forever to be loved on. We couldnt think if a better place for her!

Little Loni Lu Lu

This story is an inspiration to all kids who want a horse of their own. Lottie was adopted by a 14 year old boy who spent his entire summer working for her. He worked at home, mucked stalls, worked at the SWS and babysat for this horse. He also kept up with his chores and met his parents' demands. He took lessons on her prior to adopting and the two formed a wonderful bond of friendship that will not soon be lost. This horse truly has a special home and we are thrilled that they found one another.

Pokey AKA Sundancer

Pokey, a baby dapple grey TB mare, was left by her owner, due to a fast relocation. She was adopted by a Parelli student who plans on training her and loving her very much. We couldn't be happier - and neither can Pokey!

The SummerWinds does not profit through the adoption of any horses - we are completely supported through your generous donations.
